Interior Design Trends for 2018

With the year half over we have seen a few interior design trends come and go. There’s no denying that decorating your home can become a religious practice for some. For those of you who love interior design as much as we do, you’re likely keeping up on the latest and greatest in home decor. So get a jumpstart on next year with these 2019 design predictions, as well as 2018’s tried-and-true design trends.

2018’s Best Interior Design Ideas

At Brock Restoration we’ve had years to perfect our methods of reconstruction after home damage. From fire to water to storm damage, we’ve seen it all. That’s why we’ve also had the opportunity to rebuild a lot of different types of homes, giving homeowners plenty of opportunity to “start over” on the interior design and decoration of their houses. We may be the experts at reconstruction, but we fold to you the homeowners when it comes to expert interior design. Here are a few of the design trends for 2018 that we’ve seen and loved so far.

Design Idea Number 1: Italian Inspired Bathroom Tiles

@greeninteriors

@interior_deluxe

@designbest

In 2018 we’ve seen a lot of interesting bathroom designs, but one of our favorites is this Italian-style art deco tiling on bathroom walls and floors. What we especially appreciate about this new trend is that it allows for minimal decoration. The heavy styling of the tiles also eliminates the need for paints and any wallpapering. If you do decide to have one wall without tile, we suggest using a subdued variation of the primary tile color to complement your bathroom’s aesthetic.

Design Idea Number 2: Unique Bookshelves

@archiraffa

@zebraskindecor

@shannonregroup

They say that a house without books is like a room without windows, and we couldn’t agree more! We feel that books are a great addition to any home so why not turn your books into decoration via these alternative bookshelf designs? What do you think of the Martino Gamper bookshelf? If you love that design you’ll need a crew to help you widen out that door frame. If you prefer the geometric cubby design you might need that same crew to help you build onto an existing wall, or build a completely new one.

Design Trend Number 3: Interior Windows

@bryangraybill

@alventosamorell

@livingnordic

Interior windows are becoming very popular in 2018. They help a room feel bigger and more open, without needing to knock out a wall. You can use your home’s storm, water, or fire damage to turn a portion of wall into a geometric shape like @bryangraybill, or you can cut out a smaller section like @alventosamorell’s shadow box. You can also add a wall where there wasn’t one before like in @livingnordic’s classy black frames.

Design Trend Number 4: Photo Frame Collages

Photo collages are the big thing in wall decorating for 2018. The best part is that you can either feature photos of your whole family or you can hang up photos or paintings of places you’ve traveled to. You can keep it in a consistent color scale like @lisa_denae or alternate and have multiple colored frames in an inconsistent size pattern. If you don’t want to put a lot of holes in your wall you can stand your pictures on a shelf like @thecopperfig. Whichever style of wall collage you like best, remember to have fun with it. This is your time to get creative!

2019 Interior Design Predictions

Now that we know what we’re working with in 2018, we also want to explore what might become popular in 2019. There’s no time like the present to become a trend setter, so use these predictions as inspiration for next year, or just copy them and use them to inspire your friends!

Design Trend Prediction 1: Wall Cladding

@rubyredint

@la_pierrelb

@p_s_design_studio

Not sure what wall cladding means? You might have seen wood-textured or brick-textured walls and not even realized you were looking at wall cladding! Wall cladding is a type of decorative wall covering material intended to make a wall look like a different material than it actually is. However, we predict that for 2019 interior design wall cladding will shift toward geometric shapes and away from simple textures. We like @rubyredint’s version of wall cladding where the wall appears to be jutting out at different angles. What do you think of this prediction? Have you seen a different style of wall cladding that you’d like to do in your own home?

2019 Design Prediction Number 2: Interesting Lighting Fixtures

Our second prediction is including interesting light fixtures in your home. Often, light fixtures are not a focal point in the room and go unnoticed in the background. We predict that instead of just providing light, these lighting fixtures are going to be used as a decorative technique. An idea that we love is cascading string lights down one wall; it will be a softer light that makes the room feel cozy and warm. We also predict that chandeliers will shift from their traditional style to a more contemporary style using circular disjointed shapes. Do you have any ideas of interesting lighting decoration? Leave a comment!

2019 Design Trend Prediction Number 3: Kitchen Island with Built In Seating

In 2019 we predict that kitchen islands combined with booth seating is going to become extremely popular. Why have two tables in your house when you can combine them? This will add an element of coziness to your kitchen, while opening up space in your dining area. What do you think of this combo? We’d love to hear your ideas and thoughts on this post!

2019 Design Trend Prediction Number 4: Reading Nooks

Because we’ve already listed the 2018 trend of creative bookshelves, we predict that homeowners will combine their bookshelves with beautiful reading nooks. All three of the above photos are awesome space-saving ideas, and they also create a comfortable and contemporary reading space.
