What to Do If a Pipe Freezes and Bursts

During the winter months, your home’s pipes could be at risk of freezing and bursting. Though we would obviously all prefer to avoid this, sometimes you cannot avoid the inevitable. We wanted to let you know quickly what to do in the event of a burst pipe, so just have a quick look at our tips and this video, where you will learn about the proper actions to take if you find a burst pipe in your home.

First:

Once you notice that your pipe has burst, you will want to immediately turn off the main water supply to your home. This should be a valve on the outside of your home that you can turn off like a hose. It might have a cover on it which you will need to remove first.

Depending on the severity and location of the flood, you may also want to turn off your electricity. You can do this by simply turning off the main breaker in your electrical panel.

Second:

In addition to contacting someone to clean your now flooded space, you might also want to call a plumber to fix that broken pipe. Once you’ve done that, give your insurance a call as well so they are aware of the situation and can pay for any damages.

We do provide tips on how to clean a basement or flooded area in your house, but we do always recommend that you hire a company that offers water damage cleanup in Cincinnati. A restoration company that specializes in flood repair will be able to restore your home after a pipe has burst. They have the necessary equipment to do the job properly which saves you time and money.
